Marya Zarif

Born in Aleppo, Marya was raised in Syria. As a concept artist and writer, Marya imagines and creates ludic narrative experiences and specializes in numeric games for children.
In 2013 she co-created La Maison de la Syrie, to pay homage to the syrian culture she loves and cherishes and wishes to see thrive. For her, La Maison de la Syrie is the kind of space that needs to be nurtured, even in times of great crises, so that Syrians can make sense of everything that is going on with their country. She believes in a multiple, warm, inclusive, colourful and soft Syrian culture: a vision that keeps inspiring her through her work as the creative director of this organism.
In 2015, she has founded « Je veux jouer » (let me play !) a foundation with the ambition to transform the life of refugee syrian children through the conception and the construction of play spaces in refugee camps.

What is TEDxMontrealWomen?

The TEDxMontrealWomen event challenges each and everyone of us, as members of society, to question and define our values and beliefs in an effort to create an awareness and understanding of why we behave as we do, what motivates our behaviors and what drives our decisions to conduct our lives as we do. With this increased consciousness, we discover that we are more empowered than we previously thought to make positive, disruptive and impactful changes in whichever spheres of influence we choose. TEDxMontrealWomen is an independently organized event and an integral part of the global TEDWomen community.

What is TEDx?

In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TED has created a program called TEDx. TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. Our event is called TEDxMontrealWomen, where x = independently organized TED event. At our TEDxMontrealWomen event, TEDTalks video and live speakers will combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events, including ours, are self-organized.
