Seven years ago, tired of hearing that there were no women available for leadership roles in the business community, Margarita decided it was time to give a voice and a face to women in business. She created the magazine Premières en affaires.
Premières en affaires has successfully brought together Montreal’s corporations to embrace and support the need to ‘see and hear’ all the women who are out there, juggling too many roles to tackle one more, that of being visible outside their own inner circle. This visibility has changed the lives of many women.
Margarita pursued a successful career spanning 25 years as a real estate professional serving local and national corporations in their search for office premises. It was here that she gained a keen understanding of how corporations work and how women often felt excluded.
In 2005 she was president of the CREW Montreal, the local chapter of CREW Network (Commercial real estate women). Being part of CREW she met many wonderful competent women who challenged her own view of ‘women in business’. Following this experience, she made the commitment to herself that the advancement of women in business would be part of her daily life. From 2006 to 2011 she was senior vice-president at Colliers International (Québec) and it was during this period that she founded Premières en affaires.
